Gecko Rose’s vision is to empower other women.
the signature name for my inventive fashion design enterprise, Gecko Rose, signifies adaptability, strength, and the power to regenerate and survive against all odds, qualities deeply meaningful for me as a hearing-impaired woman living with MS.
My business purpose is to help women feel amazing about themselves, while wearing the Gecko Rose brand, no matter what adversity they are going through.
Growing up as the only person with a hearing impairment in a small town was a challenge. Being bullied crushed my self-esteem, but it eventually made me stronger.
I had to teach people to look past my disability and appreciate my heart and my intelligence, in order to see that, even though I talk differently, I am a regular person
just like they are.
Shortly after being diagnosed with MS, I became semi paralyzed and unable to
move the right side of my body. I was having trouble dressing, walking, grasping things, and my memory failed me more often than not. Because of these
difficulties, I fell into a deep depression not knowing what the next hurdle would be, but I was determined not to be in a wheelchair, as the doctor
predicted. I was too young, stubborn and independent.
However, the bullying was still so much a part of my existence, even in the world of so-called “adults.” I was not being appreciated for
my strengths because so many people could only see my double adversities.
In time though, I discovered my hidden talent as a fashion designer. That’s when I finally figured out that my purpose,
as a hearing-impaired woman living with MS, was to inspire other women. I wanted to inspire them to appreciate
themselves, be the best they could be and know that they can do whatever they want, whatever they are meant to do. I had to
pay it forward.
I now accept and learn from my own vulnerability, gaining
confidence that my challenges have taught me to do whatever it takes to set goals and achieve them. We should all be so proud of our
accomplishments, especially when we overcome our obstacles.
Many people call me Superwoman, but who I really am is Jenna Dostie
and I am LIMITLESS! My mission is to inspire other women to also be limitless, adversity and all, by feeling beautiful in their own skin while wearing a one of a kind custom dress created by Gecko Rose.
