A recent study by Dr. Bliss found our briefs with curly fibre may prevent, reduce severity, and promote healing of Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) 1
Skin breakdown can occur when the skins pH increases due to ageing, urine, faeces, some skincare products and standard briefs. This can result in skin permeability, reduced skin barrier function and microorganism overgrowth.
The descriptive names below all reference the same - inflammation caused by an irritant such as urine and/or faeces contacting the skin resulting in skin damage.
• Incontinence Associated Skin Damage (IASD) • Adult diaper rash/dermatitis
• Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) • Perineal rash/dermatitis
• Moisture Associated Skin Damage (MASD)
The average cost to treat one mild to moderate IAD episode in one resident is $169 USD. IAD occurrence can be up to 52% resulting in $2,535 USD per month (assumes 20% in a 100 LTC facility with 75% incontinence).
HARTMANN briefs with curly fibre
lower acidity/pH of skin exposed to urine/faecal matter, while standard briefs don't.
Dr. Bliss concluded that briefs with
curly fibre have the potential to
prevent, reduce severity and promote healing of IAD in residents.
HARTMANN produces the ONLY
adult briefs with curly fibre in New Zealand.
