How does the sunset make you feel? Jorge Luis Borges captured it well in his poem “Afterglow”: “How hard holding on to that light, so tautly drawn / and different, /... the way a dream is broken / the moment the sleeper knows he is dreaming.” How does the sunset make you feel? I sometimes wonder how many people at the same moment in other parts of the world are looking at the sky, feeling the same moment of silence and appreciation for a beautiful day. Paul Rousteau’s photographs are a series of playful experiments. Throughout his work, Paul Rousteau aims to “show the invisible”. Navigating between figuration and abstraction, painting and digital art, the colorful and unique images that Rousteau produces continue to attract magazines like New York Times, M Le Monde, Dazed & Confused, The New Yorker, and for brands companies such as Hermès, BMW, or Louis Vuitton. Paul photographed Haute Couture SS20 (162). How does the sunset make you feel? Sunset is one of my favorite subjects in photography. Sunset gives me joy and makes me feel alive. Sasha Samsonova was born in western Ukraine. She began shooting film photography when she was 16. Over the years, she’s shot multiple stories and covers for L’Officiel, ELLE, Marie Claire, Esquire, Vogue, Numero, Harper’s Bazaar etc. In 2013, she decided to move to LA to pursue film directing. She’s currently working on a few shorts and developing a full length feature. Sasha photographed the fashion story, “A Rebirth in the Forest” (page 176). How does the sunset make you feel? The sunset always makes me feel like it can put a pause in my head to all noisy thoughts that buzz around all day. Also like the sun that’s touching my skin is finally gentle. Yana Yatsuk is a Ukrainian-born, Atlanta, GA-raised photographer who currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. At 16, she moved to New York, where her photography career began. Her dynamic upbringing and strong cultural roots have shaped her unique eye. Yana photographed Jessica Barden (page 104) and Katherine O’Brien (page 70). How does the sunset make you feel? Every sunset is different, as in life and art—Every hue engages each person in a different way. No sunset is ever the same, nor is any photo, day, or one›s creative process. The sunset makes me feel simultaneously infinite and small. Nick Pini is a Los Angeles-based womenswear designer and illustrator. He specializes in manipulated textiles and unique, bespoke garments. These very special pieces have been worn by notable musicians in live performances across the globe. Nick illustrated the Considerations (page 208). How does the sunset make you feel? When I am reminded of my size in relation to the sun, in relation to the cosmos, I am grounded. Perception is everything to me, it allows me to live blissfully. Nina Raasch is a photographer born and raised in Berlin. She found her passion for photography at 5 years old, when she received her first disposable camera from her grandfather. Her photography career led her to work in fashion some years later.
