OBSCENE CITY The past few months have been a stark reminder that our fair pueblo is never short on theatrics, art fairs, exhibitions, and all around rejoicing, and that Flaunt will always be there with a magnifying glass to see it all unfold. As Aquarius season went into full swing, the gang made our way down Sunset Boulevard and onto Franklin Ave, stopping into La Poubelle during Grammy Weekend. There, we saluted the “Salon Series,” a new venture from Cage The Elephant’s own Matthew Schultz and Quantum Arts, an emerging artist platform. Wade Crescent offered up a lesson in groove-making, while Pisco Sours from Caravedo made us second guess if we were in LA or Lima. Some days later, we were back in our neck of the woods, setting up the red carpet at the neighboring building for the worldwide intro- duction of nascent experimental art collective and space, CLAVO. Adorning the alabaster walls were works ranging from painting to photog- raphy, featuring artists Abel Adrián, Beatriz Gómez, Carldrian Hergo, Garret Suhrie, Jacobo Parra, Jvdas Berra, Lewis Gtzr, Paul M. Glaser, Tania Riera, and Vijat Mohindra. Flaunt’s own BJ Panda Bear and Water Sports set an unconven- tional tone in the gallery setting, while Taberne- ro Pisco and Peroni provided the medicine. Soon after, the Empire State called on us, and we raised our crystal flutes to the Home Issue coverstar, Katie Holmes, in partnership with Zadig & Voltaire, at Butterfly Soho at Sixty Soho on the occasion of New York Fashion Week. A potpourri of the city’s creative and beautiful descended, including Vic Mensa, Ava Michelle, Daniela Braga, and Voyage Issue alumnus, Lolo Zouai. While guests enjoyed Belvedere in their cocktail glasses, Alix Brown and Nikki Kynard were hovering over the ones and twos, before the essential Guy Gerber eviscerated our eardrums. Back west, blue-chip art fair, Frieze, made a warmly-welcomed return, and Flaunt took heed.
