She laid down
leather against her skin
the dark surrounding her
she was washing her life away
simply existing
merely being
1,2,3,4 breathe
her demons came out to play
it was supposed to be so simple
Yet the cough syrup wasn’t working.
The eeriness left her uneasy
After all, the basement was no happy place but what was a little uneasiness
when your whole life was in question when it really wouldn’t be okay
spoon fed information
choked her anyway
she was trapped, stuck
forced to dance a dance she didn’t want to learn made to sing a tune she didn’t want to relay she had a mind of her own
she had her own way
yet when she heard her mother’s thumping steps she sunk back down, defeated
4,3,2,1 ehtaerb
and let the cough syrup play.
