Our early life is cut off, We young men of twenty, Had as yet taken no root, And the war swept us away.
We became soldiers of eagerness, But they have done everything, To knock that out of us, Without our lifting a hand.
I know nothing of life,
But death and despair. I see people set against one another, In silence, unknowingly and obediently.
