Strength comes from many hearths.
It comes from standing up to military tanks with just a few stones,
Or being forced to leave your home with threats of being bombed by a drone. It comes from the perseverance it takes to survive a chlorine bomb attack, To survive bearing the fact that your parents are gone and will never come back.
It comes from surviving the cancer that should have taken your life,
Or surviving multiple stab wounds from a sharp knife.
It comes from getting over that one pretty girl that doesn’t seem to like you back.
Strength comes from overcrowding threats from people who don’t like you because you’re black.
It comes from surviving a stage 5 “fatal” heart attack.
It comes from being a single mother of five working night shifts just so you and your children survive.
It comes from standing up alone, even when you’re the only one that thinks you’re right.
It comes from all the stresses life may bring, but, most of all, it comes from be- ing able to do the right thing
In a world as cruel, harsh, and as beautiful as ours.
