This main menu is constant but the top menu changes according to what you are
doing at any one time. This area provides you with contextual on-screen help,
information about technical updates, the ability to quickly switch between edit
and site mode, a quick way to add new items, the ability to virtually preview your
page on desktop, tablet, or mobile, a list that shows you page hierarchy to help
you to navigate when editing, and more. These items will be introduced and
discussed at appropriate points.
There are some things related to WordPress that make our u3a SiteWorks
special. One of these are the Plugins.
What’s a Plugin?
Our Development team took WordPress and customised it for us so that we
could do things such as manage our groups and events. This was done by
creating a plugin. What’s a plugin I hear you ask? The nearest analogy I can think
of is Apps on your phone. You install an App so that your phone can do
something it couldn’t do before and so it is with plugins.
You saw the Dashboard menus earlier. All the ones that have u3a in the title such
as u3a Groups and u3a Events are special for us. There is a plugin that prevents
us from uploading ridiculously large photos, and more.
