Brick Sidewalks
Problem:
Numerous sections of Davis Square’s sidewalk are are in good to acceptable condition However over time the remedy for brick failures has been to replace bricks with asphalt patches large and small The result is an an unsightly quilt of black blotches that together convey an impres- sion of decay and neglect The following pages document the extent of asphalt patches within all of the brick walks
in Davis Square Taken together there are approximately 2 700 - 3 000 sf of brick repairs that need to be undertaken The pages that follow document every asphalt patch on each sidewalk of the Square Solution:
Remove all asphalt patches un- even areas and broken bricks Repair these sections with brick to match existing Modifications to subbase and adhesion meth- od will need study Elm Street North Side 16
