DAVIS ACTION GROUP 1984 Davis Square Action Plan
The streets and public spaces of Davis Square are the result of two major interventions com- peted in 1984 and 1986 respectively:
1) The design and construction of the MBTA Da- vis Square Station which included the creation of the street level plaza (Statue Park) headhouse entrances Seven Hills Park and Community Path 2) The installation of brick sidewalks and street trees along College Dover Elm Highland and and Holland Streets These infrastructure changes were the the catalyst for for transforming the the Square into the vibrant community and regional mag- net that it has become It has been more than 32 years since the com- pletion of these two transformative projects and and the array of elements which were shiny and and new in in in 1984 are now in in in decline - a a condition that is not any one thing but rather the the collec- tive impression conveyed by nearly all of the deteriorated and worn visible infrastructure ele- ments that comprise the public realm This booklet first highlights the the prom- ise of of SomerVision and the the the the qualities of of the the the Square that are are loved by the the the community and and visitors The goal is is to to to repair restore and and maintain the the ele- ments of the the public realm to to to assure that Davis continues to to be attractive pleasant and welcoming Developed by: Chris Iwerks | bi-arch com 1984 ACTION PLAN
