 LE MANS WATCH PARTY
GO PORSCHE!
THE FAITHFUL GATHER TO WATCH PORSCHE AT LE MANS
CLUB MEMBER ALLEN KLASSEN
President Fred Quintana graciously opened up his garage to host another KCRPCA race watch party. Ear- lier this spring, we gathered to watch the end of Daytona 24 hr. Today, we gathered to watch the LeMans 24 hr. race.
Porsche was not competing for the overall win in LMP1, but the home team was well represented in the GT classes competing against Ferraris, Corvettes, Aston Martins and more. Despite our best cheering, the new C8 Cor- vettes and Ferraris were just too quick this year.
Porsche did secure a podium spot in the fiercely contested GTE Pro class at the 89th edition of the Le Mans 24 hour race. The works drivers Kévin Estre and Neel
Jani together with Michael Chris- tensen achieved third place in the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR.
The No. 91 sister car driven
by Gianmaria Bruni from Italy, Richard Lietz from Austria and Frenchman Frédéric Makowiecki wrapped up round four of the FIA World Endurance Champion- ship (WEC) in fourth place. The in house fight between the two works cars for the final podium spot was decided about an hour before the flag dropped. After sliding in the last chicane, the rear of the No. 91was ripped off and had to undergo repairs and a replacement of the brakes.
While the race lapped on, KCRPCA members were able
to partake in some wonderful KC Joes BBQ. Fred and Cindy, gracious as always, had tables and chairs set out along with the BBQ buffet. Ribs, brisket, beans, cheese-corn, and rolls made for a big spread. I should have only taken one lap of the buffet!
