COVID continues to have an impact on us all, including the kiddos of Healing Pathway. But not even COVID can stop the Christmas spirit!
Last month the members of KCRPCA came together to make custom teddy bear gift bags for the kids of Healing Pathway. The plan was, like years past, for all of us to hand out the presents to the kiddos during their annual Christmas party. Unfortunately, city restrictions and COVID had another plan.
Monica Roberts, founder of Healing Pathway, informed us
that the city of Kansas City, MO was not allowing gatherings. This meant the annual Christmas party would look a little different this year. This year they would hold a drive through Christmas party with limited vendors and fewer allowed volunteers, but hopefully just as many kids.
With our volunteer count limited, we packed up the teddy bears and headed to the downtown parking lot to do our best at spreading some good cheer despite the challenges. Dropping the top on a Boxster would work as our own Santa’s Sleigh.
Monica held a well-organized event. Donation services encircled the large parking lot and cones directed families past each vehicle making an inner circle. Each car was numbered telling us how many kiddos were to receive the gift bags of bears. The cars quickly lined up and we kept busy hustling back and forth between the “Boxster-Sleigh’’ and kids who were excited to receive a Christmas gift.
Overall, the teddy bears were a big hit, and we are very happy to have brightened a kid’s Christmas despite the challenges of COVID.
