ROUTINE MAINTENANCE 9 GUYS & 1 DEAD BIRD IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO KEEP UP WITH MAINTENANCE TREASURER JIM CUMMINGS At Fred’s we were shortly joined by Tim Bubniak, Ray Steeble, Mike Rehak, Nick Quintana, T Jones, Fabio De Andrade, and Stan Thorne. Ric Smith even came in from St. Louis for the fun. After the obligatory coffee and donuts and solving all of the world’s problems, Fred pointed out 12 a couple of fledglings and mentioned how he had to be careful when cutting the grass, so that he doesn’t accidentally scoop one of them up in his mower. YEARS Saturday of Memorial Day weekend dawned crisp and clear. I hopped into Inga, my 2001 Boxster S, and drove to Yoh’s Donuts on Renner Road for some much needed suste- nance. (NOTE: Yoh’s did not pay me for mentioning them, but I would gladly accept a couple of their donuts as an expression of their gratitude . . . . They were REALLY good). From there I made my way to Fred Quintana’s place in Olathe, where he would oversee some relatively routine maintenance on my Boxster. In addition to being 19 years old, Inga has 140,000 miles on her, so it was no real surprise when the brake sensor light came on a couple of weeks ago. I don’t abuse my car, but neither do I baby her, so it came as somewhat of a shock that the last time she had new shoes was about 60,000 miles ago. 40 Der Sportwagen Brake pad replacement was fairly uneventful. A couple of pads required some “persuasion” to get them out, but otherwise there was no drama. My front pads, as expected, were quite worn. The right front in particular, was the cause of the warning light. I could have saved
