into the program. Wow. That was an unexpected twist, but the group rallied to get the additional pillows made for the coming weekend’s party. As the kiddos came up to our table, it was rewarding to see the looks on their faces when they were handed their very own pillow. A pillow made just for them. It took my breath away. I was so proud of our club. Board members stuffed pillows and kiddos walked away with a small token from a group of people who cared.
COVID, the ultimate Grinch, interrupted the event in 2020, as it did with so many things. The event was cancelled and my heart broke for the disappointment that must befall this group of kiddos who have already lost so much. Healing Pathways provides the items the kids put on their Christmas list.
In 2020, the bicycles and a large bag of toys and clothes normally distributed at the event had to give way to gift cards.

in a most unexpected way. I needed to think of a gift we could give the kiddos that would show them we knew who they were. It would mean that we saw them and knew each of them by name. So I leaned on my close Porsche Club friends and Tom Sawyered them into helping to make custom pillows personalized with each of the childrens’ names. Trisha Steeble created a custom pattern
and she and I began sewing nearly 200 pillowcases. Using a Cricut, we stenciled each child’s name onto the pillowcase with fabric paint. Sheryl Bubniak, Maja Cummings, Cindy Quintana, Trisha and myself worked to add the personalization. We finished in record time only to be informed that the Thanksgiving weekend added another 22 kids
