I had been trolling various dealers and Panorama for two years. I started looking for 997 Turbos and then 997 Turbo S types. By the time the turbos were fixed this past April (thanks, Karl) and the meter had swung to love again, Jim Cummings aptly said at one Saturday breakfast – “Time to let it go. Really”!
The search was on. By early August I thought about Houston (4th largest city) and checked the Porsche North Houston web- site and “boom”, there it was; 23k miles and a price that was more to my liking. Still, I waffled about selling the prized 993tt.
On August 18, Fred Quintana and I were at Cars and Coffee. I mentioned the 991 Turbo to him. He looks at me and says, “I know a guy” and starts taking pictures of the 993tt. Three min- utes later, with index finger poised above his phone screen, he says, “Are you ready?” After a moment’s hesitation, I said “ok”.
Porsche North Houston treated me very well and after some minor negotiations the next Monday, we had a deal. That next Friday afternoon, the trailer arrived and the 991tt was fantas- tic. The clear taillights were even better in person than in the pictures and the Rhodium Silver was excellent, as the lightest silver in the Porsche paint pantheon that was available that year. Thanks, Fred!
I am still getting used to the large amount of technology on this Porsche. It has some amazing gauges and tracks all kinds of information that one could only guess at in a 993tt. It is stun- ningly fast and has awesome turn-in due to the rear wheel steer- ing. Having retired just over 15 months ago, I am a most happy camper in the Porsche world. BTW, this is Trisha approved!

The trail to acquire this amazing ma- chine started a few years ago as the love-hate relationship with my 37k mile 1996 993tt was beginning to fester. When I had to replace the turbos last year and it took 6 months and $7k to accom- plish, I had had enough. Even though I achieved nirvana driving it at speed thru the twisties, it was time to move on.
