or remotely. I can engage the locks using the switch on the dashboard and then exit the car so at least the trunks, gas cap, storage compartment, and passenger door are locked, but I’d really like to be able to secure the entire car. I’m getting this issue addressed as the ability to lock your car is a good thing. The attentive reader may remember that I had a similar issue with the passenger door when I purchased the car. Fortunately, going to a private mechanic was half as expensive as taking it to the dealer.
Anyway, my $8000 Boxster is turning out to be a tad more expensive than I had hoped. I’m not sure if these issues are just a function of old age and multiple owners or if they’re attributable to the accident that totaled the car a few years ago (the car has a salvage title from being rear- ended). The repairs to bring it back to life were all sheet metal; basically replacing everything from the doors back, The report specifically not-ed no damage to the engine, transmission, or frame (I have the repair documentation), but you have to wonder if there were some electronic gremlins unleashed at the time.
So, what should I have done differently? I think the only thing I would have done differently would be to look around more. As noted in my first article, though, I was doing well until I did my first test drive, then I NEEDED a car. Patience is indeed a virtue. It may not have precluded my experiencing similar troubles, but I probably would have been a tad more likely to raise my budget.
