REMEMBERING SUMMER AN AFTERNOON DRIVE A LAST MINUTE DECISION GIVES AN AFTERNOON OF FUN EDITOR IN-CHIEF STAN THORNE It was but six months ago that I was sitting in this very chair. Reclining with my feet up, I was watching numerous videos from around the country of fellow Porsche enthusiasts enjoying their cars. There was a video from a cars and coffee event. Lots of waves and thumbs up to the driver of the 911 followed by drone footage of the event. Everyone was obviously having fun and enjoying being out and about in their cars. Next was a build-video showing how the unobtanium was attained to build yet another unique outlaw Porsche. I always have a soft spot for these videos. To build something custom to your own tastes with the right amount of Steve McQueen cool, that would be ... cool. Those were followed by a cross country driving 11 Winter is upon us. The days are shorter, and the nights are longer. I sit here on this cold snowy day with winter at my door, but with a warm summer in my heart. video, documenting the adventures of friends as they snaked across the USA in their newly rebuilt restomod Porsches. That’s when it hit me, what am I waiting for? Clicking the TV off, I grabbed my keys and headed to the door. I had no plan, no direction, or idea where I was headed, but excited to get out and drive. I exited my neighborhood and headed towards some local curvy roads and hills. A plan was forming. Could I get to Lawrence by only taking back roads, and no highways? Confident in my objective, I put my foot down as I passed a waterfall. The mist was angry at the speed I carried up the hill, but the exhaust was glorious as it echoed off the high rock walls. 48 Der Sportwagen YEARS
