After the unveiling, it was on to the entertainment and my masterful display of mechanical mediocrity. Replacing the exhaust on a Cayman or Boxster hasn’t changed much between the 987 and the 981 models. Although it did seem a bit easier this time around, the peanut gallery was a bit more boisterous. After an hour of removing bolts and clamps and several dropped socket wrenches and box wrenches along the way, the old exhaust was out. Then it was time to put on the new exhaust, which is pretty much the reverse of taking the old one off, dropped wrenches and all. Then came the time to fire up the Cayman S and her new exhaust for the first time. What a fantastic sound! She growled to life just like her animal namesake, the Caiman. A few revs of the engine and all those spine-tingling burbles and cackles I yearned for in the 987 bounced off the garage walls. What a sound!
