DRIVING EVENT The theme of the day seemed to be "Daddy-Daughter Drive" JEFF WAGONER beautiful Saturday. Approximately 50 members of the KCRPCA driving 30 beautiful Porsches in the GEHA parking lot in Independence, just east of Indepen- dence Center, to head out on a “Fun Run” to Lexington, Missouri. Led by Driving Activities Chair Mike Rehak and assisted by KCRPCA Treasurer Jim Cummings as the “sweeper”, we headed north toward the Missouri River after a quick safety and rules brief. The prime directive for any fun run is that “you are responsible for the car be- hind you.” So the Porsche behind you gets stuck at a light, then you should slow down or wait up to keep that car in sight until that car gets moving again. Thankfully, that rule The theme of the day seemed to be “Dad- dy-Daughter Drive,” with several sets of fathers and daughters in attendance. What better way to spend a Saturday? McKenna Thorne jumped at the chance to accom- pany her father, Stan – “As soon as I saw ‘Porsche fun run?’ being typed into the fam- ily group chat, I responded immediately. I always have wanted to go, however Mom was always first in line. But this time, the first to respond was first in the passenger seat – ME!” Allison Montgomery, daughter of Grant Montgomery, said “I love it when my dad takes me to car shows and I help him work on our cars. This was my first fun run and I had a blast! I can’t wait to go on another one!” Sofia Wagoner, daughter of Jeff Wagoner, and also a veteran of last year’s Fun Run to Marshall, said “I love it – it’s like being on the ‘Cars ride’ at Disney- land!” The route chosen by Mike Rehak ran along the swollen Missouri River. There were several sections of the road that you could tell had been underwater not that long ago. Running along a river route allowed for plenty of dips and hills and curves along the way, plus a lot of great scenery. After rolling into the historic Lexington Square, the group found a small shopping center parking lot to take a 20-minute break. The members got the chance to look over a wide variety of Porsches – from Ed Van Mourik’s early body 928 all the way up to the newest 991.
