Then it was back on the road, heading south on some fantastic winding roads through beautiful farmland toward Inter- state 70. A brief 5-mile stint on I-70 was the only straight and level portion of the 2 1⁄2 hour drive; then it was back to the twisties. With all of the rain lately, the countryside was a gorgeous lush green, and the roads were in surprisingly good shape. Finally, the group ran into the edges of suburbia and found itself back in the GEHA parking lot. It had been a great drive with a fantastic bunch of people, so it came as no surprise that the group decided to walk across the street and have lunch together at Saints’ Pub. Nan Stanton, wife of Stan Stanton, grabbed a seat right in the middle of the daughters’ group, and had a blast doting over the younger girls. Nan gushed “I love seeing all of these daughters come out with their dads – it reminds me of when my girls were young.” Finally, after a lively lunch with plenty of good conversation, the Fun Run to Independence came to an end as ev- eryone headed their separate ways. But,this event was a perfect example of PCA’s man- tra “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people!” Come out and join us for the next one, a Fun Run to St. Joseph that includes a BBQ dinner at the fabulous Wollenman Estate, scheduled for September 28, 2019 at 1:30 pm, leaving from The Station in Parkville. - Jeff The group decided to have lunch together SEP / OCT 2019 29
