CM REACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
The Command Module Reaction Control System (CM–RCS) included 12 attitude rockets designed to allow the capsule rotates in any direction (pitch, roll or yaw). Its purpose was to control
the CM orientation in case of launch aborts or when the ship reentered into the Earth atmosphere, at the end of the mission. Both were crucial moments, so the CM–RCS attitude rockets were arranged in pairs, with redundancy in mind: each duo member was fed by a separated propellant supply system. Ten of the thrusters were located in the aft compartment, while the other two in the forward compartment. The CM–RCS was fed by two tanks of monomethylhydrazine fuel and two tanks of nitrogen tetroxide oxidizer placed in the aft compartment, next to a pair of spherical helium tanks that served to pressurize them.
