When you arrive in the UK it is VERY important that you register with a doctor ( GP) and this is even more important that you do so during the current times. You should be able to do this on line, its very easy, if you need help please ask.
As a full time student you are covered by the National Health Service for all costs except eye care. This means once you have registered with a GP/Doctor you will not have to pay to see a doctor. Any medication that is prescribed will be charged separately. NHS prescriptions generally cost £9.15 per item although children in full time education do not normally have to pay for prescription medication. You can buy medicine from pharmacies. Doctors may also refer you to qualified nurses instead who provide professional advice and help on health matters.
Dental care is also covered by the NHS. Treatment is free to a student age 19 years and under. To find a dentist either ask College Guardians or go to this website: http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Dentists/LocationSearch/3
· A new continuous cough
· A high temperature
· A loss or change in your normal sense of taste or smell
If you think that you may have Covid, please follow the advice below.
We understand that you may be concerned, so please do get in touch with us either by phone or email mail.
The following advice is from the UK government website:
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 however mild, you must self-isolate for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. You should arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
If you are not experiencing symptoms but have tested positive for COVID-19 you also must self- isolate for at least 10 days, starting from the day the test was taken. If you develop symptoms during this isolation period, you must restart your 10-day isolation from the day you develop symptoms.
After 10 days, if you still have a temperature you should continue to self-isolate and seek medical advice. You do not need to self-isolate after 10 days if you only have a cough or loss of sense of smell or taste, as these symptoms can last for several weeks after the infection has gone. See the ending isolation section below for more information.
