LANZHOU FOSTER CARE PROGRAM JULY 2014 Our new Lanzhou foster care program opened this month following a visit by LWB staff in March. Lanzhou is in Gansu province. It is an area covered in dry powdery silt, surrounded by brown, treeless mountains. This region was part of the famous Silk Road in China and has a long interesting history. The mountains are dotted with caves which served as homes to many people during the 1950s to 1970s. The local people say it is so dry here that your whole life depends on the gods. If it rains, you live. If there is no rain, your life is very hard indeed. Most rural people are farmers, and sheep are the animal of choice. Our program opened with just 9 children: 3 year old Kathy enjoys playing with her friends or her dolls, but the thing she likes to do the most is dance. As you see she loves to pose for photographs.
