APRIL! QIANDONGNAN FOSTER C ARE PR OGRAM GENERAL REPOR T! 2014 Welcome Oskar and Holly In the last couple of months we have seen a lot of movement within our foster care program. It has been with great joy that we farewelled four of our children in March as they found their way into the arms of their new families. From what we understand they are all doing well and settling into their new lives. This month we welcome two new additions: 18 month old Holly and almost four year old Oskar. Holly has cerebral palsy and has been making great strides forward recently with her movement and is standing and taking a few steps whilst being supported. She loves to snuggle and be held and because of this she is affectionately known as the family’s “little cat”. Oskar has a degree of lower limb paralysis, but as this photo shows it doesn’t stop him from getting about. Typical of a boys his age, he just wants to play chase with his foster siblings, crawl and climb and have fun at the playground. He is certainly on the right track to get mobile by using his walker the right way! Spring is here and so too, are some changes This month we welcome Tony and Karla to our program. Tony is our new manager in China and Karla is stepping into a coordinator role with Melissa. With a background in special education, and a particular focus on autism and behaviour disorders, she is a wonderful asset to LWB and to our program. As a mother of five and a teacher it goes without saying that she is very good at multi-tasking and juggling the needs of many at the same time. Melissa and Karla have a wealth of experience between them that covers both medical and education, so the children and program are in the best of hands.
