Perfectly Keyless – your smartphone becomes the key
At Bosch Australia the Automotive Electronics team has been developing electrical and electronic products for cars for the past 30 years.
Whether it’s the “black box” which controls many vehicle functions such as headlights, wipers, indicators and the starting of
your vehicle (technically known as a Body Computer) or it’s a power diode inside a vehicle’s alternator, these are products which are invisible in your car.
Even if you are aware of these products, it is unlikely you realise they are developed and manufactured by Bosch.
A new and exciting technology, Perfectly Keyless, is a new addition to this landscape.
Starting as a concept born in Australia, the Bosch Australia team entered a global Bosch competition - a “Shark Tank” style event that sees teams pitching new ideas.
Perfectly Keyless won the competition to develop this unique concept further.
Perfectly Keyless was then showcased at the world’s largest consumer technologies event CES – the Consumer Electronics Show. A lot of interest was generated from customers and partners of Bosch.
So what is it and how does it work? Simply put, Perfectly Keyless turns the
smartphone into the vehicle key (plus a bit more).
Thanks to this new vehicle-access system, drivers can open, start, and lock their vehicle without the bother of searching for keys.
Perfectly Keyless is a vehicle access system which allows for passive vehicle access
and start, controlled by a digital key on a smartphone, requiring no action on the part of the driver.
When the driver gets out, the vehicle automatically starts to search for the key: if the smartphone leaves the locking zone, it automatically locks itself; the driver is
notified by a confirmation message on their smartphone.
When the driver returns to the locking zone, the car is unlocked automatically. Using an app, registered drivers can grant other users their own personal digital key, sent via the cloud, which allows them to access and drive the vehicle using their own smartphone.
The Bosch engineering team is now working with colleagues in Europe and the US and have prepared a demonstration vehicle with the new system. The demonstrations are proving to be a hit with extremely positive feedback; in fact, it is Perfectly Keyless.
