     I'm a Ladybird
      Verse:
D
I'm a ladybird and,
G
I'm very small,
D
Hiding in the grass,
A7
Oh you never saw.
DG
Flying high, flying low,
D A7 D
Give a little twirl as I go.
Chorus:
(same chords as verse) Spots, spots, spots, spots, Lots of lovely spots.
Red and black I am too. Spots, spots, spots, spots, Lots of lovely spots.
And I'm tickling you!
     Activities for classes with parents
1. Adults gently bounce their babies on their laps to the pulse during the verse. They lift them up on ‘flying high’ and bring them back down for ‘flying low’. They gently poke spots on the babies' tummies during the chorus (‘spots’ etc.) and then tickle them at the end.
2. When the adults know the actions, you can accompany the group on your melodic instrument.
Activities for classes in the nursery
1. Sing the verse manipulating your ladybird finger puppet to do the implied actions. For the chorus, poke all over your own tummy to show the spots and tickle all the babies at the end. Adults in the room can help poke babies' tummies.
2. If there are adults and older babies who can follow along with actions, add some in for the verse. Curl up/bow head in lap for first two lines, hide eyes for third and fourth lines, lift arms up and then down for ‘flying high/low’ respectively and roly poly arms for the last line.
3. When the adults know the actions, you can accompany the group on your melodic instrument.
Same as for pre- schoolers except skip activity three and allow the children to learn the words through repetition.
* You can sing this song or 'The Flea'. 'I'm a Ladybird tends to work better for older toddlers and 'The Flea' tends to work better for younger toddlers.
   1. Demonstrate the song using your ladybird finger puppet. For the verse you manipulate the puppet to do the implied actions. For the chorus you poke all over your own tummy to show the spots and you tickle all the children at the end. You may need to call out “freeze!” before repeating the song as the children might get carried away with the tickling.
2. The children become ladybirds. They crouch down for first two lines. Still crouching, they cover their face for third and fourth lines. Stretch up high and curl up in a ball for ‘flying high/low’ respectively. Twirl around for last line. The children poke their tummies in time with the pulse to show spots for the chorus then they find a friend to tickle at the end. You may need to call out “freeze!” as before. You do the actions with them.
3. Teach the song one line at a time.
4. Repeat activity two accompanying the children with your melodic instrument.
