Page 4 - Princesses & Knights online
P. 4
(Choose one child to be the naughty witch and give them a magic wand. They leave the circle, go into the middle and cast a spell on the princess.)
A witch was naughty and cast a spell, cast a spell, cast a spell.
A witch was naughty and cast a spell. Long, long ago.
(the witch returns to the circle and the princess lies down and sleeps)
The princess slept for a hundred years, a hundred years, a hundred years. The princess slept for a hundred years. Long, long ago.
(Choose one child to ‘ride’ an imaginary horse, using a coloured scarf as the reins, around the outside of the circle. You demonstrate first. If there is not much room they ride around the inside of the circle.)
A brave knight came riding by, riding by, riding by.
A brave knight came riding by. Long, long ago.
(brave knight kisses princess who wakes up)
He kissed her hand to wake her up, wake her up, wake her up. He kissed her hand to wake her up. Long, long ago.
All the children hold hands with a partner (including the knight and princess who hold hands with each other) and dance around in a circle as you sing the last verse two times. If there is extra time at the end of the party you can repeat the game, choosing different children to be the princess, witch and knight.
There was a happy wedding day, wedding day, wedding day. There was a happy wedding day. Long, long ago.
9. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH HIDING: ‘All Around the Castle’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’)
“It’s time to play with the parachute again.” The children hold the edges of the parachute and walk around in a circle as you sing the song. They keep the parachute still until “Roarrrrr” when they quickly lift it high into the air. Once the children understand the game, reveal the toy dragon and place it on top of the parachute. Repeat the song several times with the dragon on top, tossing it high into the air on “Roarrrrr”.
All around the castle,
The knight chased the dragon. The dragon thought it was all fun, “Roarrrrr” went the dragon.
Take the toy off and ask the children if they’d like to hide underneath. If there are 12 children or less they can take turns hiding under in groups of three. If there are more than 12 children, ask an adult to hold the other end of the parachute so all the children can hide under at once. Sing the song and lift the parachute up as you say “Roarrrrr” to reveal the hidden children. Repeat at least once if all the children are hiding at the same time. If the children have been taking turns, perform the activity one last time so they can all hide under at once.
10. CHASING GAME: ‘Catch the Princesses and Knights!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’)
Put on your posh teacher voice. “And now you’re going to have a short princesses and knights lesson. I am the teacher and you are my students. Follow me.” Sing the song acapella and perform the actions as indicated by the lyrics.
“All knights must know how to ride a horse!”
The brave knights are riding, the brave knights are riding, the brave knights are riding, in the brave knight class.
“All princesses must know how to twirl!”
The princesses are twirling, the princesses are twirling, the princesses are twirling, in the princess class.
