3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the picture of a man in your life that you would like to thank on Father’s Day. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “Can you guess who is in this picture? That’s right it’s my dad/uncle/grandad.”
b) “Can you guess why I’ve brought this picture in to show you? Yes, it’s Father’s Day! Father’s Day is a day where we say ‘thank you’ to all of the special men in our lives who help to take care of us. So Father’s Day isn’t just for daddies, it
can be for grandads and uncles too!”
c) “Let’s practice saying ‘Happy Father’s Day’ using different voices. Let’s say
‘Happy Father’s Day’ using our silly voice. One, two, three, ‘Happy Father’s Day’. Let’s say ‘Happy Father’s Day’ using our angry voice. One, two, three, ‘Happy Father’s Day’.” Repeat using happy voice, scared voice, excited voice and whispering voice.
d) Ask a volunteer to suggest something we can do to make our dads, uncles and grandads feel special on Father’s Day (e.g. make a card, cook breakfast, give them a cuddle etc.). You act out performing the suggested activity (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘I Love My Daddy’ by Unknown
“Let’s learn a song to sing on Father’s Day.” Choose a man in your life that you would like to sing about on Father’s Day (e.g. daddy/grandad/uncle). Sing the song acapella with the following actions. Hands on heart to pulse for each ‘I love my daddy/grandad/uncle’ and nod head twice for each ‘Yes I do’. Clap hands to pulse for last line.
