5. Action song or poem: ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ (traditional)
a) “My favourite nursery rhyme is ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. Let’s turn our hands
into spiders.” Sing the song acapella with the well known actions.
b) "Now it's time for us to become Incy Wincy using our whole bodies.” Wave magic wands and say, “One, two, three abracadabra.” Everyone stands up. During the first line, mime climbing up the water spout. As you sing “washed the spider out”, jump to the floor and lie down. During the third line, wake up with a stretch. During the final line, climb back up the water
spout.
c) “We’re starting to feel tired after all that climbing!” Repeat actions from
activity b at a much slower tempo.
d) "It's getting late. We need to climb up the spout really quickly before it's
dark." Repeat actions from activity b at a much quicker tempo.
Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the waterspout, Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain, So Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the spout again. * Running time approx. 3 mins.
6. Create the story

“We’re going to start today’s story with a really well known nursery rhyme about a boy called Jack who hurt his head.”
Opening lines: “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after.” Explain to the children the definition of ‘pail of water’ and ‘crown’. “Who would like to tell me what happened next in the story?”

See Saw Margery Daw = face a partner, hold hands, stretch arms and legs out wide and rock from side to side as you sing, “See Saw Margery Daw” (the first line from the traditional song)
Humpty Dumpty = fall on the floor and say “Ahh!”
I’m a Little Teapot = make a teapot pose (one hand on hip as handle and other hand pointing out as spout) and sing “tip me over” (from the traditional song)
Baa Baa Black Sheep = get down on all fours and say “baaaa”
Pop Goes the Weasel = jump three times as you say “pop, pop, pop” *Running time approx. 3 mins.
9. Travel back to the real world and give out magic sparkles
