P. 3

One superhero feeling strong and brave, Looking around for somebody to save. He heard a crash so he flew off in a flash! Three, Two, One. Whoosh!
Take out the real parachute, place the Superman toy on top and repeat, flinging him high up into the air at the end. “Superman is a little lonely on there. Let’s turn some of his friends into superheroes so they can join him.” Reveal a soft toy from your sparkly bag, place it on the parachute and say the following rhyme.
Two superheroes feeling strong and brave, Looking around for somebody to save.
They heard a crash so they flew off in a flash! Three, Two, One. Whoosh!
Repeat until you have five soft toys on top. Then place as many soft toys and finger puppets as you have on top (so there are up to about 20 all together) and skip to saying, “Lots of superheroes feeling strong and brave etc.”. Repeat with ‘lots’. Don’t worry if they fall off. They always do!
7. MUSICAL STATUES: ‘Shake It Off’ performed by Taylor Swift
a) Ask the children if they know the game Musical Statues. Tell them that they’re going to play a
game a little bit like Musical Statues and that if they can beat you to win, you will give them all a
Haribo treat.
b) Explain that they are going to be princesses and superheroes and you are going to give them a
musical treasure (egg shaker) each.
c) When the music plays they must march their treasures to the royal palace (demonstrate as you
tell them). When the music stops it means the baddie is coming and so they must freeze so the baddie can’t hear them and steal their treasures. “If everyone stands really still when the music stops, you will all win a Haribo treat.”
d) “I am going to turn into the baddie every time the music stops.”
e) Give each child a musical treasure.
f) Play ‘Shake it Off’ and the children march around the room and shake their musical treasures.
g) Pause the music and pretend to be the baddie. The children freeze. You get grumpy because
they’ve managed to escape you. “I’ll get you next time!” Try to be as silly as you can to make
the children laugh.
h) Repeat several times until you confess that the princesses and superheroes have beaten you and
delivered the musical treasures to the royal palace. You cry and say “I want my mummy!”
i) Walk away and when you turn back you are no longer the baddie. Tell the children that you’ve turned back into a princess/superhero, congratulate them and tell them you will give them their
Haribo prize before you go home.
8. ACTION SONG OR POEM: ‘There Was a Princess Long Ago’ by Traditional
The children are standing in a circle and holding hands. Ask the birthday girl if she would like to be the special princess (if not ask them if they’d like a friend to be the princess with them or choose another child) and give her a tiara to wear. The chosen child stands in the middle of the circle. The group sings the first verse and walks around the princess in a circle. NB: Birthday girls aged 3-4 will usually prefer to have a friend in the middle with them.
There was a princess long ago, long ago, long ago, There was a princess long ago. Long, long ago.
(Children in the circle lift their arms up to be the walls of the tower.)
She lived in a big high tower, big high tower, big high tower. She lived in a big high tower. Long, long ago.
(Choose one boy or girl to be the naughty witch and give them a magic wand. They leave the circle, go into the middle and cast a spell on the princess.)
A witch was naughty and cast a spell, cast a spell, cast a spell.
A witch was naughty and cast a spell. Long, long ago.
(Witch returns to the circle. Princess lies down and sleeps.)
The princess slept for a hundred years, a hundred years, a hundred years. The princess slept for a hundred years. Long, long ago.
