Here's an example of what I can do. I can change my handle to my spout. Tip me over, pour me out!
Activities for classes in the nursery
1. Sing both verses of the song acapella with the actions. For first verse, hand on hip for 'handle' and other arm pointed for 'spout'. Tip body to the side towards the spout on ‘tip me over, pour me out’. For second verse, start with teapot body position. On 'I can change my handle’, put your ‘spout’ hand on your hip to make it a ‘handle’ and on ‘to my spout’ move original ‘handle’ hand off hip and make it a ‘spout’. So you will have switched the position of your arms so that your handle is now a spout and your spout is now a handle. On ‘tip me over, pour me out’ lean towards the new spout to pour.
2. Accompany the group using your melodic instrument.
3. You and any nursery staff can give children turns of being tipped over. E.g. They sit on a nursery worker's lap and the nursery worker gently tips them over to the side.
Activities for classes with parents
Same as for in the nursery except parents help their children with the actions throughout, making sure to do a big 'tip' at the end of each verse.
1. Sing the first verse of the song acapella with the actions. Actions are same as for babies.
2. Accompany the first verse using your melodic instrument. Children do actions and join in with singing where possible.
3. Sing the second verse of the song unaccompanied with the actions. Actions are same as for babies.
4. Accompany the second verse using your melodic instrument. Children do actions and join in with singing where possible.
5. Sing both verses acapella with the actions.
6. Accompany the group with your melodic instrument as they sing and do the actions for both verses. You help with the singing.
Activities one to six are same as for toddlers.
7. The children sing on their own without your help and do the actions whilst you play your melodic instrument.
8. Ask if a volunteer would like to perform the first verse of the song for the group solo. You accompany with your melodic instrument.
