Page 2 - Winter toddler music song book for nurseries and parents
P. 2

 Hello parents and staff,
This document consists of three parts:
1. Key to musical and EYFS aims
2. Song/rhymenamesinalphabeticalorderwithlyrics,MP3sforlistening,composernames,
musical aims and EYFS aims 3. Winter lesson plans for toddlers
Lucy Sparkles & Friends music classes are based on the tried and tested principles of Hungarian composer and music educator, Zoltan Kodály. We teach children musical concepts through singing games, rhymes, parachute play, dancing and movement exercises, listening and by playing percussion instruments. The classes are taught by professional musicians who bring a live instrument to every class.
Each lesson develops several musical skills including (amongst others) musical memory, sense of rhythm and moving in time with the pulse. In addition, each season has its own musical focus.
Autumn: to extend the children’s interest in music and singing, develop skills in solo singing and experience subconscious learning of pulse, tone colour and pitch awareness.
Winter: to practise counting skills and to experience subconscious learning of dynamics, phrasing and form.
Spring: to practise skills in changing the tempo and being imaginative, communicate imaginative ideas and develop a subconscious understanding of rest.
Summer: to experience subconscious learning of rhythm, continue to develop a sense of pulse and encourage enjoyment through music and singing!
Every time you sing a song or say a rhyme with children you help them to develop multiple EYFS prime and specific areas of learning including: ‘Communication and Language’, ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’ and ‘Expressive Arts and Design’. In addition, by using the same hello and goodbye songs throughout the winter season and the same structure for each lesson we establish a recognisable routine which improves ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’.
These areas of learning are incorporated into every lesson. The EYFS aims listed in the song bank below are additional to these.
Please note that the aims listed are for classes with 15 or less children. Activities for larger classes need to be adapted and so some of the aims may not be met. Furthermore, your teacher may make small changes to the lesson plans to accommodate your particular group’s needs. The aims listed for each song are expected to be met upon completing a full season of Lucy Sparkles & Friends music classes, not after one individual lesson.
Many Sparkles,
Lucy Milan Davis – Company Director
