Page 3 - Cars 2 hours
P. 3
All:
Starlight starbright,
First star I see tonight.
Wish I may, wish I might, Have this wish I wish tonight.
You: Which car do you wish for? (to the birthday boy/girl the first time) (you may need to give some suggestions)
Child: I wish for a big red car. (the child invents their own wish)
You: (spoken) Now, let’s all say “One, two, three abracadabra”!
All (spoken): One, two three, abracadabra! (the children wave their imaginary wands)
Repeat several times as above, except for at the end of each verse when you ask the children to put their hand up if they would like to make a wish. You then sing “Which car do you wish for?” to a child that has their hand up. If you have more than ten children, you could try asking a few children at a time (at the end of each verse before saying “one, two, three abracadabra”) to speed up the activity. If you have more than 20 children you can ask everyone that hasn’t had a turn to shout their suggestion at once.
6. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE ONE: ‘Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car’ performed by The Wiggles
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“My favourite car is the Big Red Car and I’m now going to teach you a special dance about it.” Go through the tricky moves then play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
7. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH TOY/S ON TOP: ‘Riding in my Car’ written by Woody Guthrie
The children are sitting in a circle. Move the ‘imaginary parachute’ up and down in time with the pulse as you sing the song acapella.
Take you riding in my car, car, Take you riding in my car, car, Take you riding in my car, car, Take you riding in my car.
Repeat using the real parachute. “I think it’s time that we invite someone to ride in our special car. Let’s see who’s hiding in the sparkly magic bag.” Reveal the Lightning McQueen soft toy, place him on top of the parachute and repeat the activity above, only this time you change the words to “Take Lightning riding in my car, car...” Place your soft dog toy on top of the parachute (so there are now two toys) and repeat the song, changing the words to “Take doggy riding in my car, car...” Repeat for up to ten toys. Then place as many soft toys and finger puppets as you have (up to about 20 all together) on top and sing “Take you riding in my car, car”. Don’t worry if they fall off. They always do!
8. MUSICAL STATUES: ‘Life is a Highway’ performed by Rascal Flatts
a) Ask the children if they know the game Musical Statues. Tell them that they’re going to play a game a little bit like Musical Statues and that if they can beat you to win, you will
give them all a Haribo treat.
b) Explain that they are going to be racing car drivers and you are going to give them a
steering wheel (coloured scarf) each.
c) When the music plays they must drive their cars (using scarves as steering wheels) to the
finish line (demonstrate as you tell them). When the music stops, it means there is a red light and so the children must slam on their breaks and freeze (demonstrate freezing). “If everyone is good at freezing when the music stops, you will all win a Haribo treat. If you don’t freeze when the music stops, the mean policeman will eat all of your Haribo.”
d) “I am going to turn into the mean policeman every time the music stops.”
e) Give each child a steering wheel (coloured scarf).
