4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in term four lesson one.
“Today in Danceland we’re going to learn about going to the beach.” Ask a volunteer to name something that you wear or bring with you when you go to the beach (e.g. sunscreen, hat, swimming costume, flip flops, towel, bucket and spade etc.). The group then mimes putting on or using the suggested item. Repeat three or four times.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
5. Fine motor skills: ‘Five Little Sea Shells’ written by Unknown
“When I go to the beach, I like to collect seashells.” Reveal your five shell laminates one at a time, encouraging the children to help you count out loud as you do so. Perform the rhyme using the actions below on your right hand. Each time you tuck a finger away, place one seashell laminate back into the sparkly magic bag. Count out the seashell laminates again and repeat the rhyme using your other hand to represent the seashells.
Five little seashells lying on the shore, (hold up five fingers)
Crash went the waves and then there were four. (clap hands together and tuck one finger away)
Four little seashells pretty as can be, (hold up four fingers)
Crash went the waves and then there were three. (clap hands together and tuck one finger away)
Three little seashells pearly and new, (hold up three fingers)
Crash went the waves and then there were two. (clap hands together and tuck one finger away)
Two little seashells sparkling in the sun, (hold up two fingers)
Crash went the waves and then there was one. (clap hands together and tuck one finger away)
One little seashell left all alone, (hold up one finger)
I put it in my pocket and I took it home. (pull on remaining finger with other hand, tuck the finger away then pretend to put in pocket)
