and begin the class straight away. Work this additional 10 minutes into the rest of the lesson- so you can spend a little longer on each activity.
Option B (if the children are providing their own ukuleles): tune each child’s ukulele as they arrive. Once you have tuned a child’s ukulele, tell them to choose a seat and sit down, then place their ukulele underneath their chosen seat. If you can do this in less than 10 mins then start the lesson early as there is a lot to get through and the more time the better!
2. Welcome (5 mins): ‘Hello, Hello’ written by Janice Buckner
Welcome the children and tell them that they should always keep their ukuleles under their chairs unless you ask them to take them out. Tell the children to listen as you sing them a welcome song. Sing the first verse as you play your ukulele.

It's music time.
“This time, I’m going to sing ‘children say hello’ and when I’m finished you’re going to say ‘hello’ then I’m going to sing ‘children say hello’ again and you’re going to say ‘hello’.” Chords and melody are the same as for the first verse.
Children say “hello” (hello), Children say “hello” (hello), Children say “hello” (hello), It’s music time.
Next, insert the names of the children in the class, prompting them to say hello on their own. Choose a confident child to go first.
E.g.
Jessica say hello (hello), Harvey say “hello” (hello), Mia say “hello” (hello), It’s music time.
Repeat until you have sung the names of all the children in the class.
‘Hello Everyone’
Sing “hello everyone”. “What type of voice did I just use?” The children may not know the answer which is of course ok. Tell them you used your “singing” voice.
“I’m going to sing ‘hello everyone’ again and this time I’d like you to respond by singing ‘hello Your Name Sparkles’.”
You sing “hello everyone” and the children respond, “hello Your Name Sparkles”.
3. Getting to Know Your Ukulele (4 mins)
“Ok everyone, you’ve got 10 seconds to think of a name for your ukulele. And if you can’t think of one, just use any name and you can change it next week.” (Count down from 10.) “I’d like you to shout out your ukulele’s name after 3. 1, 2, 3. My ukulele is called (insert silly name). Now it’s important to get to know our ukuleles. They have body parts just like us. This (point to ukulele head) is my ukulele’s head. Can you show me your ukulele’s head? This (point) is my ukulele’s
