EATKefalonia takes pride in her distinctive cuisine and show casing her local produce. Traditional tavernas offer generations of secret recipes, each dish complete with
its own story. Savour lamb slow cooked in the oven with garlic, rosemary and potatoes, beef stifado and the famous Kefalonia meat pie. Sample the traditional Greek salad, ‘horiatiki’ made with large juicy tomatoes, flavoursome cucumber, feta cheese and tasty olives. Expect the daily catch to be available from 11am. What could be nicer than a plate of freshly fried calamari with a glass of crisp white wine next to the sea?
SEE The unique rugged coastline and turquoise waters provides a wow moment around every corner. The stunning beaches of Myrtos and Petani are well worth the winding drive down. The natural phenomenon of Melissani lake
and Drogarati caves are fascinating, as are the castles of
St George and Assos. See the native Loggerhead turtles swimming in Argostoli harbour. From Argostoli take the local ferry across to Lixouri to experience the quieter side of the island and the red sand of xi beach.
DO During the summer months there are many opportunities to enjoy the warm crystal-clear water of the Ionian. Join one of the many organised boat trips or hire your own to discover hidden coves. A variety of water sports are available on the beaches in the resorts of Lassi and Skala. Try horse riding or donkey trekking. Visit the busy capital of argostoli for souvenir shopping and buy fish fresh from the boats for the barbeque.
