EATPuglia is a food lovers paradise
and often referred to as the Garden of Italy. The fertile soil produces an abundance of vegetables and fruit plus Puglia’s Green Gold – the delicious olive oil that comes from the acres of olive groves. Start the evening with an aperitivo and taralli, traditional snacks served everywhere before sharing a platter of seasonal antipasti or orrichiette, the regional pasta. To learn more, try wine tasting or even cheese making with a local producer.
SEE Trulli dot the countryside throughout the Valle D’Iteria with many converted into villas. The town of Alberobello is famed for having over 1,400 of them and they make
a spectacular site when viewed from a distance. You can also stroll around them visiting the many boutiques and restaurants. Ostuni, the White Town sits atop a hill with views down the coast and has plenty of elegant Baroque architecture to admire.
DO Although rich in culture, Puglia is not short on adventure. Explore the Castellana Grotte, a huge underground network of caves which can take up to 2 hours to explore.
Hire a bicycle and explore the countryside passing farms, vineyards and olive groves which appear to have stood still in time. Water babies can learn to surf, kayak and sail at the Lido Bambu while everyone can enjoy swimming in the turquoise adriatic Sea.
