EATFreshly-caught fish and succulent barbecued meats are on the menu at most of the local eateries. If you want to try some of the traditional fare, tuck into Rabbit al Salmorejo, Adeje spicy chicken and Canarian Papas Arugada. In the bigger resorts, you’ll also find a wide selection of international restaurants to keep even the fussiest of eaters happy.
SEE You can’t miss a trip to mount Teide National Park. Hike, drive or get a cable car up to the top of the mountain and enjoy breathtaking views over the island. Head there at night and you can even do some constellation-spotting from the observatory. For something different, travel east to find Tenerife’s own collection of pyramids. The mysterious Pyramids of Guimar were built in the 19th century and no-one knows why.
DO Tenerife might be a sunbathers paradise, but there are plenty of ways to cool down. Dive down and explore a shipwreck, snorkel with turtles, or slide your way around Siam Park waterpark. Prefer to stick to the sand? Try a quad bike tour, a jeep safari or
a camel ride. If you’re visiting in February, join in the Tenerife Carnival celebrations - it’s the sister carnival to Brazil and the second largest in the world.
