TRAVEL GUIDE
the front are the traditional tavernas, enticing you with fresh produce and welcoming smiles.
Around the area, drive though the craggy hillside and discover pretty fishing villages such as agia effimia and quiet coves with secluded beaches like Alaties beach: with a family run taverna just above, serving delicious meze and other Greek culinary delights.
The island is best tackled by car, enabling visits to the Venetian fortress ruins at pretty Assos or to the perfect white sandy beach at Myrtos. A boat trip to the Caves of Mellisani, is enchanting for all the family. This underground grotto has a burst of sunlight shine though the ‘roof’, revealing the turquoise hues and delights of this previously hidden cave.
Little ones will enjoy viewing wild Loggerhead turtles in the Argostoli harbour and feeding fish from the
shore line. Or marvel at more of the underwater world by riding on a glass bottom boat from Argostoli. Additionally, catch the ferry for a day trip to Lixouri, the second largest village of Kefalonia. For fantastic views, visit the St Georges’s castle ruins for free.
These delights, along with the island being the setting for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, have made Kefalonia one of Greece’s most treasured holiday islands for families.
