EATFish dishes are popular here, thanks to the freshly-caught catch. Deep fried baby squid, anchovy fillets, prawns and grilled fish are served in the local restaurants, with a side of Canarian potatoes and mojo sauce. You’ll also find braised rabbit and tortilla butties on the menu if you’re after some island favourites. For dessert, try Bienmesabe - a sweet, almond-flavoured cream poured over ice cream or made into a cake.
SEE Explore the out-of-this-world Timanfaya National Park and marvel at extraordinary rock formations and dramatic volcanoes. Thanks to Lanzarote-born artist and architect Cesar manrique, there are loads of art installations, gardens and quirky buildings to spot all over the island. Explore his colourful Cactus Garden which has over 1000 cacti plant species. And step onto his Mirador del Rio viewpoint which boasts some of the best views in the Canaries.
DO If you’re a keen surfer, head to Famara Beach and hit the waves. The Atlantic breeze here is perfect for all watersports, including kiteboarding and windsurfing. You’ve also got waterparks like Rancho Texas Park, a 2-in-
1 zoo and splash park, and aquapark, the biggest one on the island. If you’re keen to get closer to the lava-sculpted landscape, head
to Cueva de Los Verdes and stroll inside the longest lava tunnel in the world.
