The ear becomes medically relevant
After the incredible work of Dr. Frank Lin, et al, researchers began publishing a plethora of studies connecting hearing loss to brain health. The most important question had yet to be answered...is it causation or correlation? Meaning, is hearing loss causing dementia? Or is there a correlation between the two that has yet to be clearly understood. What’s more, can treating hearing impairment prevent the decline in our cognitive ability?
Dementia 1
“Hearing loss is independently associated with incident all-cause dementia. Whether hearing loss is a marker for early stage dementia or is actually a modifiable risk factor for dementia deserves further study.”

Brain Atrophy 2
Mild Hearing Loss Linked to Brain Atrophy in Older Adults
Jonathan Peele, PhD/ Penn Medicine 2011
“Your hearing ability directly affects how the brain processes sounds, including speech. Preserving your hearing doesn’t only protect your ears, but also helps your brain perform at its best.”
