"By 2030, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg will have doubled or tripled its customer base." Marianne Wildi
Marianne Wildi, CEO of Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, founding member of Swiss Fintech Innovation and the Swiss Blockchain Federation, Member of the Board of Economiesuisse
What role will Swiss FinTech solutions play in the global market?
There is already a certain potential. Take Sonect, one of our partner institutes. They are not only operational in Switzerland, but also abroad. The idea of the money pur- chase app is internationally scalable. But it is certainly not easy that there are many interesting ideas outside of Swit- zerland.
They have already achieved a great deal. What is the next challenge for you? What do you want to achieve with HBL?
After Fintech Regtech: Develop Twist Lab's onboarding solution for more areas: card or loan applications. Or for the sale of our products via the digital channel. Nationwide expansion with the new brand HBL Asset Management.
What will banking look like in 2030?
Challenger banks and incumbent banks. Some institutions will disappear by merger or splitting. Small banks become bigger through cooperations with fintechs. Some new banks will emerge, such as the Cryptobank Seba, which is currently in the process of obtaining a banking license.
What will the Swiss financial center look like in 2030? Where is the HBL in 2030?
No PSD2, above all an open banking culture. Hypi will have doubled or tripled its customer base.
What dangers do you see in digitization? What is the biggest risk for HBL?
Generally in cyber security but also in topics like KYC and AML (Anti Money Laundering).
If FINMA were a fairy godmother and fulfilled one wish, what would you wish for?
I wish that smaller, soundly financed banks would not be regulated and supervised like big banks. We are currently in a pilot group for a small banking regime of the Financial Market Supervisory Authority, FINMA. The aim is to increase the efficiency of regulation and supervision for small, sound institutions and to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens without endangering their stability and security. The pilot phase is expected to continue until the end of 2019 and should then be converted into a permanent small banking regime. I hope this project can be completed successfully.
You started as a programmer. A profession dominat- ed by men. How did you come to this? Would you recommend this job to women?
Certainly! What I said in an interview with the "Aargauer Zeitung" last year is still valid: Computer scientists are a profession for women. Programming means: logical think- ing, variety, creativity, part-time opportunities. All things that interest women and are important to them. Many be- lieve, however, that computer science is primarily con- cerned with mathematics. It is something very creative!
