FACTS AND FIGURES
The nearer Zürich airport region in- cludes around 20 municipalities in the canton of Zurich with more than 200,000 inhabitants and more than 150,000 employees. However, the Zurich airport region in a broader sense encompasses a much larg- er radius, with more than 2 million inhabitants and over 1.25 million workers. Accordingly, this catch-
ment area extends to the entire canton of Zurich, the cantons of Schaffhausen, Thurgau, St. Gallen, central Switzerland and parts of the cantons of Aargau and Bern.
The following 11 municipalities and cities – with over 150,000 inhabitants and more than 1,300,000 employ- ees – have formally joined the Zurich
Airport Region organization: Bass- ersdorf, Bülach, Dietlikon, Düben- dorf, Kloten, Nürensdorf, Oberglatt, Opfikon-Glattbrugg, Rümlang, Wallisellen and Wangen-Brüttisel- len. More than 10,000 businesses are located in these communities. Zurich Airport alone is responsible for a value add of around CHF 5 bil- lion.

Is this reflected in the economy?
Yes, the location is in great demand – by
national and international companies. This is also reflected in the high level of purchasing power: The Airport Center and the Glatt are the
two largest shopping centers in Switzerland.

The Zurich Airport Region is Switzerland's most attractive economic area, with its very short distances and inter- national headquarters. The airport offers over 200 direct
connections to the world. Also important are its uni- versities, which receive top marks in international
