• 3 patients were treated within 1-5 working days.
• 1 patient exceeded 5 working days.
Conclusions:
• 18% with a positive ANCA result had ANCA vasculitis.
• 82% with a positive MPO or PR3 ANCA do not have AAV, highlighting the importance of
careful clinical and laboratory interpretation of test results.
• New AAV patients were identified across many specialities, e.g. Renal, respiratory, and gastroenterology.
• 1 out of 24 patients exceeded 5 working days to treatment following an ANCA vasculitis diagnosis.
This highlights the importance of a Trust-wide pathway for same-day action and prompt treatment. Recommendations include:
1. Establish clear diagnostic pathways to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the diagnostic process.
2. Streamline specialist nurse counselling and day case appointment availability to facilitate prompt treatment.
3. Raise awareness that a positive ANCA can be associated with other diagnoses.
Key points:
• 18% with a positive ANCA result had ANCA vasculitis.
• 96% of patients with ANCA vasculitis had treatment within 5 working days.
• 82% with a positive MPO or PR3 ANCA do not have AAV, highlighting the importance of careful clinical and laboratory interpretation of test results.
