 MARITIME BY HOLLAND
Maritime by Holland (Nederland Maritiem Land) is an umbrella organisation for industry associations and leading companies in
the maritime sector; it represents the sub- sectors sea shipping, inland shipping, fishery, offshore, shipbuilding, yacht building/water sports, hydraulic engineering, maritime suppliers, ports, navy (marine) and maritime service providers including the Dutch Maritime Pilots’ Organisation. The entire maritime cluster in the Netherlands accounts for 259,000 direct and indirect jobs and for 3.10 percent of the Gross National Product. Including all the activities in the ports, this contribution amounts to more than 6 percent.
Rob Verkerk and Arjen Uytendaal:
“Once students become interested in the sec- tor, they automatically become enthusiastic.”
YOUNG MARITIME REPRESENTATIVES
Maritime by Holland also relies on young people themselves to in an accessible manner make students aware of the career opportunities that are present within the maritime sector. Since 2013 already, this has been happening through the appointment
of annually changing Young Maritime Representatives. They for example attend trade fairs and exhibitions, but also frequently visit companies and report their experiences via social media. During the most recent edition of the World Port Days in Rotterdam, Jesper, Danique and Bas were appointed
as Young Maritime Representatives for the 2019/2020 academic year.
