SAILING IS FUN!
During the annual, well-attended World Port
Days in Rotterdam, the Dutch Maritime Pilots’ Organisation organised several activities to promote the profession. Students from the maritime academy were able to sail with the pilot vessel and were taught on board. Pupils of a so-called technasium, which offers secondary education with a focus on science and technology, went to work in their class to devise solutions for safely bridging the height between two ships. During the event, they were able to experience this in practice on a climbing wall. Furthermore, there were numerous hands-
on activities for primary school pupils, including a learning module, in order to introduce sailing into the schools in an early phase.
