THE AMAZON
The Amazon River originates in Peru and has a total length of approx- imately 6,500 kilometres. In Brazil, the river ows out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon is one of the longest rivers in the world and runs through the Amazon rainforest. During the rainy season, the river can be up to 40 kilometres wide in some places. The Amazon has more than 1,100 tributaries of which approximately 100 are navigable.
