The Journey of Didi Neely with Adhiyogi
Didi Neely’s yoga journey with Adhiyogi began in 2001 and unfolded over many years, through multiple teacher training programs, yoga classes, and deep philosophical discussions. Each stage in her learning not only expanded her technical skills but also shaped her into a confident, compassionate, and knowledgeable yoga teacher.
November 2001 – First Impressions
When Didi first attended Adhiyogi’s class in November 2001, she quickly recognized that she was learning from a skilled educator. As a trained education specialist herself, she noticed that Adhiyogi used practices vital for student success — clear lesson objectives, allowance for questioning, and abundant patience. Most importantly, his classes had no applied stress. This created a safe space for learning and exploration, and she was eager for the next session.
January 2002 – First Teacher Training
Didi took her initial teacher training in January 2002. The course was comprehensive, covering physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga. The lectures were particularly valuable for her teaching practice and personal life. She appreciated how the spiritual goals and mind-body training concepts improved her asanas and meditation. Adhiyogi’s command of the material was evident, and he explained concepts in practical terms. Didi rated the class a perfect “10” and considered herself fortunate to have begun her yoga journey with a true master.
October 2002 – Advanced Teacher Training
By October 2002, Didi embarked on advanced teacher training. Her goals were clear — to learn yoga for specific therapy applications and to improve her ability to perfect challenging asanas. Under Adhiyogi’s expert guidance, she achieved tremendous improvement in backbends and learned therapeutic applications.
Initially incredulous about performing certain asanas, she succeeded through the careful use of props, encouragement, and gentle discipline. The program also featured in-depth lectures on health, yoga theory, and philosophy, enhancing her vegan diet and her ability to focus, breathe, and begin meditation. She recommended the course to anyone wishing to learn from a master.
May 2003 – Refinement and Confidence
Reflecting on her 2002–2003 advanced training, Didi highlighted how Adhiyogi designed programs to meet each student’s needs, allowing for clarity on confusing issues. Small class sizes
