oṁ śrīgaṇeśāya namaḥ। oṁ śrīsāīnāthāya namaḥ। oṁ īśvarāya namaḥ।
piturāśīrvādena pracodito'ham।
ācāryānugraheṇa suśikṣito'ham।
yogādhyayanādhyāpanena dhanyō'ham।
sakalayogasādhakānprati praṇato'ham।।
Salutations to śrīgaṇeśa, śrīsāīnātha, īśvara.
I am illuminated due to the blessings of My Father.
I am well educated due to the guidance of My Teachers.
I feel accomplished due to the Yoga Study and Yoga Teaching. I bow to all (sincere) Yoga Practitioners.
This is an opening prayer. The author starts with salutation to śrīgaṇeśa and śrīsāīnātha of Shiradi as they are his chosen deities (iṣṭadevatā). In any subject of study or knowledge, a profound success is possible only when one develops a strong dedication. This dedication is accompanied by the development of a devotional attitude to some higher entity. A profound success is generally a result of the blessings of such a higher entity. After this, the author salutes to īśvara, who is the ultimate subject of this book.
