CLA and its 501(c)(4) affiliate the Forum for Community Leaders recently surveyed Forum members & Partners about challenges & needs during the pandemic economic recovery period.

Q: What is your business/industry's biggest challenge in recovery?
A: Getting businesses back open so that we can keep our people employed.
A: Ability to work with cities with all the priorities elected officials are facing.
A: To understand how states/cities will respond to the financial pressures placed on their budgets due to the COVID-19 crisis. How will funds be re-allocated? Will capital budgets survive?
A: Being designated as an essential business.

A: Ability to work with cities with all the priorities elected officials are facing.
Q: What does your industry need from local governments as it plans and moves forward in the economic recovery process?
A: Targeted approach to recovery. There are jobs that were harmed by Covid. There needs to be a targeted approach to assist those residents. Generalized regulations, like eviction moratoriums, places the responsibility to provide housing on one entity -- the rental housing industry. This is a community-wide concern that needs a community-wide fix.
A: Most critical is to stay away from the demeaning and ridiculous "Essential" v "Non-essential" work designations if we have second wave. Should be more thoughtful and look at who can stay working safely and who may need to pause.
A: To understand government priorities and new challenges? Will governments continue to focus on sustainability goals, building re-use (convention centers to temporary hospitals), electrification, transportation?
